In 2009, a year after the Asian Longhorned Beetle was discovered in Worcester, Evelyn Herwitz was interviewed by then-Mayor Konnie Lukes about Trees at Risk: Reclaiming an Urban Forest on Lukes’s WCCA TV13 program, Coffee with Konnie.
In these two excerpts from that February 2 broadcast, Konnie and Evelyn discuss the fate of Worcester’s trees from the ALB infestation, the many factors that threaten the city’s urban forest and how Edward Winslow Lincoln, the city’s first Parks Commissioner, championed Worcester’s trees.
The interview concludes with a discussion of the importance of tree stewardship, how trees enhance the urban environment and how their loss deeply affects a community.
